The Circuit Court in Wa in the Upper West Region, has sentenced two persons to 20 years in prison in hard labour, for robbery and causing harm.
The accused persons- Fuseini Seidu, 27 years old, and Hamah Nuhu, 28 years old- are both alien herdsmen living in Walewale. They were found guilty on two counts of robbery and causing harm.
Prosecuting, Assistant State Attorney, Frank Aseidu Nimako, told the court that on November, 5, 2018, one victim Abdulai Amadu was riding an Apsonic motorbike with registration number M-18-UW-5908 with Dramani Amadu as a pillion from Funsi towards their cottage at the outskirts of Funsi.
On reaching a section of the road, the two accused persons together with one Ndewa who is at large, lay ambush and suddenly emerged from the bush and attacked them with cutlasses and clubs. They ordered the victims to hand over the Apsonic motorbike to them but they were reluctant.
The accused persons beat the victims and forcibly took the motorbike away from them.
As a result of the beatings, Abdulai Amadu suffered severe pains on his chest and Dramani Amadu sustained a deep cut on his forehead. The victims raised an alarm and ran toward the Funsi town until of the inhabitants came to their aid and sent them to St. John Health Center for treatment.
First accused, Fuseini Seidu escaped with the motorbike towards Buffiama but was arrested by inhabitants upon his arrival after the information about the robbery was communicated to them.
The second accused person, Hamah Nuhu was arrested at Walewale by relatives of the first accused person and handed over to the police for investigation.
The court presided over by Justice Baah Forson Adjapong in reviewing the case, found the two accused persons guilty of the two charges.
They told the court shortly before they were sentenced that they maintained that they never committed the two crimes and pleaded for leniency. That did not, however, change the mind of the judge and he sentenced them each to 20 years imprisonment in hard labour.
