The 1992 year group of Dormaa Senior High School (Dormass) in the Dormaa Municipality of the Bono Region has donated classroom furniture worth GH¢40,000 to their alma mater.

The classroom furniture handed over to management at a short ceremony in the school comprised 105 tables and 105 chairs, made of wood and metal.

The group, with some of their members outside the country, came together to support the school, which according to them, impacted their lives positively.

After enquiring from the headmaster on how they could be of help to the school, the group settled on assisting with the tables and chairs for the students.

Lydia Oduro, speaking on behalf of the 1992 year group, said their motivation was drawn from the fact that the school molded them to reach where they are in life now. 

"Coming together as a group to donate the furniture is our way of saying thank you for 5 impactful years in the school and also giving back to the school", she explained.

She appealed to other year groups to emulate what they have done. 

"Others did it. We learned from them, so we call on all past sons and daughters of Great Dormass to join us to address the needs of the school so as to benefit both current and future students", she appealed.

Napoleon Kumi, a member of the old students said each pair of furniture cost about GH¢380 and therefore urged the school authorities and students to ensure they are well used and properly maintained so they can last longer. 

“We believe that would be a way of motivating us and other groups to go the extra mile to continue to assist the school", he added.

He further advised the students to take their education seriously, and stay away from drug abuse, alcoholism, and other immoral acts. 

The group said they also have plans to regularly visit the school to interact with the teachers and encourage the students on how life after school is directly linked to time on campus.

On his part, the headmaster of Dormass, Nicholas Asamoah, thanked the old students for their immense support.

He, however, said the school needs over 1,000 chairs and tables to aid effective teaching and learning, and therefore appealed to the old students, NGOs, philanthropists, and the government to extend more support to the school.

The headmaster added that because of the free SHS and other government directives, the school is unable to generate funds through the Parent-Teacher Association, hence their continuous appeal to the stakeholders for assistance. 

Henry Amadu Darry, the boys' prefect of Dormass, on behalf of the students, also expressed appreciation to the 1992 year group for not abandoning them at the time of their needs. 

"We are motivated by your kind gesture. It's an indication that we should learn hard and move forward in life so that we can also look back and support the school. It's our prayers that God would restore in folds what you have spent on us", he said

Girls' prefect of Dormass, Janet Addai, said inadequate student beds is a worry and therefore appealed to the old students, as well as NGOs, the government, and philanthropists to come to their aid.
