Fourteen persons, including a baby, have been confirmed dead after the vehicle on which they travelled collided head-on with another vehicle in the early hours of Tuesday.
Thirteen others in critical conditions have been referred to the Korlebu Hospital in Accra, St. Joseph’s Hospital in Koforidua and the Eastern Regional Hospital also in Koforidua.
The dead are five males and nine females.
Ten of the deceased died on the spot while four others died at the Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital at Mampong, Akwapem, where they had been rushed to for medical attention.
The two vehicles involved in the deadly crash at a spot near Mamfe in the Eastern Region, are a 33-seater Benz bus and a Ford pick-up truck.
The passenger bus was thought to be travelling from Doryumu/Kodeabe area in the Dangme District and headed for Suhum after picking some passengers at Larteh.
Police suspect the driver of the bus might have lost control on the hilly road and crashed into the approaching pick-up, however DSP Francis Annor, District Police Commander of Akropong says only a full-scale investigation can establish the actual cause.
