So you’ve got everything planned out for your Valentine’s date night. Red spaghetti strap dress with a plunging neckline and backline hanged, tuxedo ironed, menu set, red scented candles bought, and reservations made.
You didn’t forget the chocolates, the flowers (not every day roses, sometimes lilies), the gifts (I know he has holes in his underwear, but not another box of Calvins, please), the flavoured condoms with studs, and your sexy red lingerie.
What else? The gallon of pineapple juice, tray full of bananas and tiger nuts, and your extra skin care routine because Monday is a pain. Great!
But what is missing? Music. Music to set the mood. Music to get the conversation going. Music to dance to, to soak in, and lose yourselves in. I guess, your Valentine’s day playlist is overflowing with foreign songs (Tonight and All of Me by John Legend, Mango by Sevana, Fire on fire by Sam Smith etc)
So here I am with some Ghanaian songs I believe you would love to have on your playlist.
- Sor mi mu by Gyakie ft. Bisa Kdei
Sor mi mu is arguably Gyakie’s best song yet. It expresses love like a deep-seated yearn, with some teenage folly to it. This song is a preferred choice especially if you want to try a duet with your partner - and great also is the promise of love’s warm embraces in the night (Anadwo wei de3 me ne woaa).
- Afraid to lose you by Kwabena Kwabena
If you haven’t heard Kwabena Kwabena’s Afraid to lose you yet, then I am glad I’m introducing this to you. It isn’t his typical highlife style. This is jazzy, with some soul. Just perfect for your slow dancing, or perhaps something to listen to while you star gaze and talk or stare into each other’s eyes etc. Afraid to lose you as the name suggests tells of one's fear of losing their lover.
- One man by KiDi ft Adina
“You’re the woman that I need, I be the one man that you seek. You set my heart on fire” is there anything more to be said? KiDi and Adina will help you say the sweet things that have remained unspoken between you two, or more? lol
- Take care of you by Adina ft Stonebwoy
I mean, your partner wants assurance that you’re going to be there for a long while taking care of them. Take care of you by Adina is just the right amount of assurance you should give this Monday. Remind her or him that they’re the indica sativa in your life, bringing them euphoria and relaxation.
- Stay woke by Darkovibes ft Stonebwoy
Stay Woke gives that let’s live and love in the moment vibe; a sense of carefreeness, pleasure, and love. It’s the perfect song to set the mood for a long sweaty night.
- Obiaa by Akwaboah ft Cina Soul
In Akwaboah’s Obiaa, that loved one is reminded that they’re the only one in your love life. That you love them more than all the others (why are there others though?) And it’s the two of you against the whole f**king ewiase!!
- Best Paddy by Ko-Jo Cue ft J. Derobie
It’s one thing being one’s lover and another being both their lover and best friend. Ko-Jo Cue’s Best Paddy is the right song to tell her she’s that special.
- 00:01 by Cina Soul
Cina Soul’s vocals on this track are just breathtaking. Here she says she knows what you want and what you deserve and she's willing to give it to you.
- Sika by Bisa Kdei ft Gyakie
If you disagree that the voices of Bisa Kdei and Gyakie were a match made in heaven, then most likely your lover is not your lost rib either, break up!!!
This song is especially perfect for that person who wants to tell his lover that, yeah the money is not there but if you stick and stay, when the money comes it will rain on you.
- Little things by Efya
You want to tell him or her that it’s their thoughtfulness that makes you love them more. Well, here is a perfect song to say that.
- LOLA by Reynolds the gentleman
This song is just an expression of your love. You can hit the dance floor with this.
- Don’t keep me waiting by Kwesi Arthur ft Kidi
You finally gave yourself another chance to fall in love and be loved, This song is right to tell them that they can’t play chaskele with your heart, never.
- Me lo wo by Asi Renie
In Me lo wo, Asi Renie lends you her voice to tell your lover to stay right by your side (without sounding clingy), because that really is where you want them to be. They’re literally your everything.
- Turn on the Light by Ebony
Ebony’s Turn on the light is the cherry on top the cake. Red lingerie worn, scented candles lighted, and you want to turn off the light? Are you okay?
Your favourite song might be missing from this list, true. But feel free to add it while you remake your new playlist.
And for sticking to the end, here’s a bonus song.
- Awoso me by Mzbel
Why not? Mzbel always understood the assignment.
