The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) successfully intercepted a truck loaded with 12,600 slabs of compressed cannabis at Dodi, near Akosombo in the Eastern Region.
The operation took place on Saturday, December 2, 2023, and was driven by intelligence.
The truck was discovered abandoned in a bush, and upon inspection, 180 sacks of cannabis were found concealed in poultry feed.
The examination of these sacks led to the recovery of a total of 12,600 slabs of compressed cannabis.
The truck, along with the seized drugs, is currently in the custody of NACOC for further investigation. No suspects were arrested in connection with the seizure.
NACOC emphasised that the Narcotics Control Commission Act, 2020 (Act 1019), strictly prohibits the cultivation, importation, exportation, unlawful possession or control, and business related to narcotic plants.
The commission also clarified that the special provision related to cannabis with not more than 0.3% THC content, as per the Narcotics Control Commission (Amendment) Act, 2023, does not imply the legalisation of cannabis.
