The Gomoa District has registered 1,211 youth under the National Youth Employment Programme since it began operation in June 2006.
The Gomoa District Youth Employment Coordinator, Mr. Roger Amoako, tells the GNA that 185 youth had been registered under the Health Extension Workers module.
He said 70 of them are undergoing six months' training after which they would be attached to hospitals, health centres and clinics in the Gomoa District.
Mr Amoako said 725 youth were registered under the Community Education Teaching Assistants Programme and that 90 of them had been trained and posted to schools that have vacancies in the district.
Under the Youth in Agriculture programme, about 225 youth had been registered of which 125 of them would go into farming during the coming major farming season.
They would be assisted with inputs and cash to enter into maize and vegetable production, he said.
On the Community Protection System Module, he said 88 applicants had been registered and would be screened and trained by the Police Service to assist the police in their work.
