Ten people were on Friday, arrested in connection with the murder of a one-and-a-half- year old baby who disappeared from home at Antoa, near Kumasi, last Tuesday.
Four days after her disappearance, the body of the little girl, only known as Nyamekye, was found floating in a manhole filled with water near the house with her private part removed, raising the suspicious of some of the inhabitants that she might have been killed for rituals.
A source at the Mamponteng police confirmed the arrest to the Times, but declined to give the names of the suspects, citing security reasons.
Mr. Kofi Yeboah, father of the deceased who is not staying with the wife, told the Times that the wife was said to have gone to have her bath, leaving the child in their room but when she returned, the little girl was nowhere to be found.
He said a report was made to the police the following day, when the little girl could not be found.
Meanwhile, a 26-year-old single mother, who had threatened to take her life to end her sufferings in life, has carried out her threat by allegedly taking in some poisonous substance.
Akua Boatema would not allow her six-year-old child, Regina Boadu, to also suffer life's hardship as she did, and so gave her some of the poisonous stuff. Both were found dead in their room at Antoa, on Friday.
A police source at Mamponteng confirmed the incident to the Times, saying the bodies had been deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital while investigation was on going.
According to a family source, Akua had not been herself for the past three months as she kept complaining of problems in life and threatening to end it all.
