Vice President Dr Mahamadu Bawumia has touted the ongoing construction of dams by government as projects that deserve to be safeguarded by the citizenry.
According to him, projects that have been undertaken in various parts of the country have helped alleviate the challenges associated with seasonal farming in parts in those areas.
As part of the NPP administration’s commitment to facilitate the growth of agriculture, it embarked on a 'One Village One Dam' policy to improve irrigation all year round.
A cross-section of Ghanaians has hailed the development while others have criticised the implementation describing some of the dams as unfit for purpose.
According to the Vice President, the project is one that couldn't have been delivered under the erstwhile NDC administration for which reason it must be commended for its fruition.
Speaking on Ekosiisen on Asempa FM, the Vice President explained that the completed ones have played an effective roll in consolidating the gains made in agriculture in the beneficiary districts.
He told host Philip Osei Bonsu that the critical nature of the dams' role cannot be downplayed and must be protected.
Dr Bawumia said the construction of the Pwalugu Dam in the Upper East Region is progressing steadily.
The $1 billion project which is geared towards curbing the perennial spillage flooding caused by the Bugre Dam spillage in Burkina Faso.
