The qualification hopes of the Black Maidens for the first ever FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup was dealt a massive blow at the Ohene Djan Stadium on Saturday where Ghana lost 2-1 to Cameroon.

The defeat, a second successive loss by Ghana, leaves the team with no point at the bottom of the three-team table battling for the two qualifying places at the World Cup.

The Black Maidens lost their first game away to Nigeria 4-2 last week.

After last week’s away defeat to Nigeria, the Black Maidens were hoping to revive their qualifying campaign but saw their first half lead cancelled out by the Cameroonians who went ahead to clinch the match winner in the second half.

The Black Maidens would need to win their remaining two games to stay in contention for one of Africa’s two places at the World Cup to be hosted by New Zealand.

Africa’s qualifiers have been narrowed down to three teams with all attempting to pick one of the two places.

The World Cup will be held from October 30 to November 16, 2008.
