President John Agyekum Kufuor, on Friday left Accra, to join a select group of African leaders attending this year's summit of the eight most industrialized nations, otherwise known as the G8, which is scheduled to take place in the Japanese city, Toyako-Hokkaido, from July 7 to 9,2008.

A statement issued by Presidential Spokesman, Andrew Awuni, said the summit will tackle problems relating to the global financial crunch and how to stabilize the financial markets to promote growth.

As well, the world leaders, the statement explained, will seek to take concrete actions on how to rein-in the food crisis which has led to massive rioting across many cities in the world, as failure to act on these developments might adversely hamper to the ability of third world countries in particular to attain the Millennium Development Goals.

Also to be on the menu of the world leaders is the nascent political and economic meltdown in Zimbabwean, Iran's nuclear ambitions, the Middle East peace process and scourge of terrorism.

President Kufour will be joined at the summit by Presidents Umaru Yar' Adua of Nigeria, Abdoulaye Wade of Senegal, Abdelaziz Bouteflika of Algeria, Thabo Mbeki of South Africa, Jakayaa Kikwete of Tanzania and Prime Minister Meles Zenawi of Ethiopia.
